10 years of Wide Beam – 10 years in which our hulls have revolutionized the market

As always, it was an idea that came about during a cruise in Croatia – on my own boating vacation. Dieter and Florian Öchsner spent a few days together with their family on board a Yachtline during this vacation. While swimming together, the hull of the former boat was repeatedly observed and, as if by a flash of inspiration, the “Wide Beam” project was born. Father and son quickly agreed that this would be a challenge and a revolution that no shipyard had ever produced before.

As soon as they returned from their vacation, they could no longer hold anything back and immediately started looking for ways to make this type of hull producible. At the same time, the first simple test fuselages were repeatedly optimized to find the necessary geometry and balance.

The goal was clearly defined: extremely improved water position, faster and more efficient gliding, more space for crew and provisions and, of course, trailerability!

Exactly two years later, the first Wide Beam hull was produced on a 27 Yachtline – a milestone then as now! The Öchsners did it: with diligence and a strong will, all the original hurdles were overcome and the era of the Wide Beam hull began, which continues to inspire customers, the press and us to this day.

For years, this hull shape has been a must-have for all Yachtline models from Öchsner and thus serves as a solid and stable basis for all our models.
