After 30 years of experience in inflatable sports boats, we decided to buy a rigid hull boat with a cabin. After many comparisons and visits to trade fairs, we realized that our wishes could only be fulfilled by Fa. Öchsner was able to fulfill: Boat length approx. 6 meters, cabin with plenty of storage space, trailerable with motorhome (< 1700 kg with trailer), safe position in the water without strong swaying movements, Lake Constance approval and all this … with excellent workmanship.

Since Öchsner was able to offer us exactly that, we decided on the SX20 after detailed consultation with Mr. Küffner in October. Just as planned, Mr. Küffner (in the dry dock) and Mr. Öchsner handed over the boat on the water the following April with all the details.

Thus prepared, we were able to start our first Lake Constance trip with our new boat. Slipping the boat with the motorhome for the first time was very exciting, as such boats are usually craned during motorhome transportation! At the Schloß Helmsdorf campsite in Immenstaad, we slipped our Cora-Lee with our caravan without any problems.

The trip could begin, destination: Überlingen on Lake Constance

Here we moored at the public jetty and were able to enjoy the promenade. In hot weather, we stopped for a swim off the island of Mainau. An absolute pleasure with such a view and wonderful water!

On a second trip to Lindau, we noticed at lunch ashore that a black wall of clouds was moving in our direction from Austria and Switzerland, which looked very threatening. Let’s get out of here!

Despite the reservations of other skippers, we cast off with our Cora-Lee and made our way home to Helmsdorf. As soon as we left the harbor, we noticed the movement of the lake and felt that it could do more than just lie there quietly. As expected, our Cora-Lee was also able to convince here and prove her rough water properties.

A trip to Untersee is always a Lake Constance highlight. We reach this idyllic part of the lake via Constance with a tucker trip through the See-Rhine past Gottlieben, the Wollmatinger Ried, Ermatingen and a brisk ride past the island of Reichenau.

Once we arrived on the Höri, we experienced the low water level of the lake at first hand. When we moored, the water was only about 40 cm deep. Due to the shallow draft and the trim of the engine, we were able to maneuver very well without taking damage.

Wonderful days with getting to know the sailing characteristics and absolute boat enjoyment confirmed that we did everything right with the purchase and are already looking forward to the next beautiful trips!

What would we do differently? We would treat ourselves to an electric anchor winch!
