Handover in Kürnach
We were really looking forward to the day when we could pick up the boat and we were not disappointed. We first received comprehensive explanations on all the relevant points and issues so that we would be able to enjoy the boat without any problems later on. Every question, no matter how simple, was answered seriously and in detail. Most of the questions were answered during the inspection of the boat, together with the specialist salesman while still on the trailer. The briefing was followed by a demonstration of slipping with the purchased trailer. The appointment ended with the handover of the boat on the trailer, where we first put it in the parking lot of our home port.
As it was still the end of March, we had to wait a little while before the boat was allowed to dock in the harbor. The heaviest snowfall of the past winter was exactly in those two weeks. However, with the tarpaulin correctly attached to the trailer, the boat withstood the driving snow. Even the tarpaulin did not buckle under the relatively heavy load. When we slipped it into the water for the second time in mid-April, our boat was the first in the harbor basin. On our first boat tour, we also tried our hand at the first lock. The sleek shape of the SX20 model means that normal fenders fit between the boat and the lock wall on the left and right. With the help of the fenders, it was easy to drive into the lock and lock down. This was a little more challenging on the way back, as there was a crosswind.
An eventful summer
Over the summer, we tried out all the different things that can be done with the SX20 -Yachtline-. Among other things, the two of us spent the night in the harbor and set up the camper cover on the boat, as rain was forecast. We discovered that there is enough space for two people up to 180 cm in the cabin so that they don’t feel cramped.
The SX20 is not too bad for water sports either. To match the two cleats at the stern, which are attached to the left and right above the engine, we quickly acquired a guy rope with a wheel runner after some initial one-sided experiments, so that everything that is pulled by the boat can also sit in the middle behind the engine. We had a lot of fun ring rafting and water skiing with this rig! In both cases, the lighter the athlete’s weight, the easier it is to get out of the water. The 100 hp engine made no effort at all. Even during more daring maneuvers, it did not reach its limits (there were always up to three people on the boat itself). Straight stretches, turns and figure eights in water sports work great!
The refrigerator on board cools the drinks down decently in summer, so that we always had a pleasant refreshment on board when we thought of suitable soft drinks before a tour.
Our conclusion
In this, our first season with a sports boat, we naturally invited a lot of family and friends onto the boat to go for a spin with us. So far, everyone who has had to leave the boat after an extensive cruise has indicated that they would like to sail again soon, which is why we are really looking forward to the coming season, when we will hopefully be able to spend even more time on the boat.
What I personally like about pleasure boating is the unique perspective on familiar landscapes that never cease to impress.
What I particularly liked about Öchsner Boote was the advisory service, which was always available for questions and had the right answers. Compliments at this point!
Our conclusion is that we didn’t do anything wrong by buying the boat. On the contrary, this year it brought us a lot of extra joy and pleasure!
Best regards, Family H.
