Mecklenburg Lake District

Our first trip with the SX20 was for a long weekend to the Mecklenburg Lake District in beautiful weather and with quite a bit of excitement. Thanks to the good introduction by Mr. Öchsner and a great slipway with a jetty and calm waters, we got our Ohana safely into the water and set off from Marina Eldenburg in the direction of Malchow. We then drove on to Waren to the town harbor with a very nice harbor master, who gave us some mooring tips and told us adventurous stories about other “hobby captains”.

On the way we had to pass through several locks between out-of-control houseboats and hundreds of canoeists. Fortunately, thanks to the easy handling of the SX20, we got through the locks without any major embarrassment.
Our daughters visited us for two more days and the four of us actually slept on our Ohana for two nights. It was fantastic to just drop anchor somewhere and jump into the water, pure relaxation.

We quickly became a well-coordinated team and the mooring worked better each time. Happy and with the first hours on the clock, we landed back in the marina and pulled our boat out of the water after 2 or 3 attempts.

Elbe

After our first beautiful tour on the Mecklenburg Lake District, we were brave enough to take a day trip to the Dove Elbe with our friends. This time we brought our boat into the Elbe in Grünendeich in super Hamburg weather but with a bit of wind. Our journey took us through a really narrow channel, which unfortunately only had a depth of 40 cm due to the low tide. Too shallow for our boat. As a result, the propeller has already lost some of its color on its second trip. But as we have heard, we are not an isolated case. We continued through the port of Hamburg with a view of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, big ships and the beautiful Landungsbrücken. We passed the Tatenberg lock and then entered the Dove Elbe. It’s simply fantastic to find something like this in Hamburg. It felt like all the Hamburg boat owners were out on the water in the best weather. We enjoyed a great picnic on board and jumped into the water. With a beautiful sunset, we headed back to the starting point. An all-round perfect day.
Although our Ohana was shaken up a bit in the port of Hamburg, we felt safe and in good hands at all times.

A great boat for beginners

Our conclusion: a great boat for us as beginners, easy to handle, super quality and workmanship. Not forgetting the great team at Öchsner. The advice from Mr. Küffner was great and no questions were left unanswered. The journey from the far north to Kürnach was more than worth it for us.
We bought an additional small round tabletop to save us having to convert the bed in the evening. A retractable center cleat would be an additional option when mooring and locking.

Best regards, Family B.-S.
