Experience report SX20 -Yachtline-: Mecklenburg- Vorpommern
- Boat model: SX20 -Yachtline-
- Engine: LRTU BF100
- cruising area: Coastal Region Mecklenburg Vorpommern
- crew: 2
- crew experience: yes
After chartering mostly 4 to 6 ton houseboats in recent years,
our boat project should now focus on trailerability. Urgently wanted: a trailerable glider with a permissible trailer weight of up to 2 tons.
The equipment should be sufficient for a week-long holiday:
Slip bunk, camper top, double battery system, 12V refrigerator, sink, separate toilet room with chemical toilet, pressurized water system with at least 50 liter tank, rear shower, functional bathing ladder, table in the pantry and in the cabin. GPS and depth sounder, position lights for night driving,
powerful outboard motor for relaxed gliding.
These specifications seemed hardly achievable until we found the Öchsner company on the internet. After my visit to Kürnach, I commented to my wife: “The boat has the form factor and I really like it, and the trailer is a stunner in itself!”
Meant: Öchsner SX20 -Yachtline- WA (year 2021), 100hp, camping equipment, aluminum trailer X19V.
She agreed without seeing it on the spot. And she had a vision of where this
boat should first lie in summer and winter: in the brackish water of a lagoon on a well-known Baltic Sea island.
After the handover, we gained initial experience with the SX20 -Yachtline-
Now our first experiences with this boat began in a very spacious water world with occasionally very strong winds and high waves. In addition to very pleasant nice weather days, we also spent two rainy days on the boat and experienced two thunderstorms. The camper hood proved to be almost waterproof up to wave heights of around 1.5 meters. It offers a variety of protection against rain, splashing water, the sun, cooling down, insects, flocks of birds flying overhead, condensation and prying eyes.
The large skylight with the step in front of the transom is used for bow-side mooring and undocking. This hatch is highly recommended for ergonomic operation of the anchor. A sharp 10kg M anchor made of stainless steel holds wonderfully well in the fine sand even in strong swells. So a shore leave can be risked.
Perfect room climate thanks to the double-shell construction
In the galley with a large 12V refrigerator, sink and 75-liter pressure water system, we load the
double battery system with a 12V kettle for coffee, tea or a bulgur salad.
Food can also be prepared very well without a hotplate.
The structure of the hull, its intermediate ventilation and the ventilation of the cockpit lead to the pleasant indoor climate. The gap that we leave between the cabin and the cockpit with the separating door determines the indoor climate.
The cabin is so well insulated in terms of heat exchange that on hot days with the cabin door and skylight mostly closed, there is a pleasantly cool retreat below deck, while the cockpit in the cockpit has been brooding for hours.
With the optional floor mount, the round table can be opened at a height of 1.42m in the cabin. So far we have preferred the panoramic view from the cockpit for meals. In the cabin, there is almost two meters of headroom between the refrigerator and the door of the toilet room. Starting from this point, it is quite easy to remove from the refrigerator and pass it on to the cockpit.
On the side of the sink, the double berth is sufficiently long for a body height of 1.86 m. The lying surface is generously wide for two people. We find the strength and hardness of the padding to be very pleasant. We have slept very well here for 11 days in a row. The workmanship of the upholstery is excellent and the subdivision is convincingly functional. The workmanship of the upholstery is excellent and the subdivision is convincingly functional.
This boat makes us very much joy
The boat is clear, handy and easy to manoeuvre. In two-person operation, the best way to get in and out is via the skylight or the comfortable aisle at the bow. Various handles, which are located in the boat in the crucial places, have proven to be very functional. Using the four-step bathing ladder is easy and safe.
From 30 km/h the boat is planing at approx. 4000 rpm, provided the waves
are not too high. Otherwise, in heavy seas, the boat should be driven in an adapted displacement mode at speeds of around 2000 rpm. It is reassuring that waves up to 2 meters high are still manageable with category C. The course against the waves, the trimming of the boat must be done with skill and precision, and the stage destination must be chosen appropriately. After a wild storm voyage, we handed the boat over to our trusted team for winter storage with indoor space and battery service.
This is a highly recommended boat that we are very pleased with!
Kind regards, Familie P.
