The second season with our Kalea

After we were only able to enjoy the first season with our Kalea to a limited extent due to Corona and the flood disaster here in NRW, the 2022 season should be better. Our season began with the annual inspection of the outboard motor, which was now due. As our harbor workshop unfortunately does not offer a service for Honda engines, Kalea had to be driven to Koblenz on the trailer. The inspection was carried out by Bootservice Rörig immediately on arrival, so that we were able to bring the boat back to Schweich on the same day.

Our boat was then put back in the water in May. We had already had the underwater hull cleaned in the fall, and the gelcoat looked like new afterwards. In our opinion, a coat of antifouling is unnecessary in our sailing area.
The first drive was in glorious weather and the engine didn’t complain about the “old” E10 gasoline that had been left in the tank over the winter. In future, however, we will be advised to add a stabilizer when refuelling and to switch to petrol types with less added bio-alcohol in order to prevent possible problems.

During the hot weather period, we didn’t ride much. On a positive note, the cabin remained pleasantly cool thanks to the double-shell construction. Longer turns were not possible due to the extremely low water level and the locks being closed as a result.
Unfortunately, our anchor rocker at the mooring was damaged by another boat. The spare part was delivered quickly, many thanks to the Öchsner team for their quick help!
We have added a Mastervolt charger to our convenient equipment, so both the batteries and the Riesling in the fridge always stay fresh!

Conclusion

Unfortunately, we didn’t spend enough time on our boat this time either. Despite everything, we really enjoyed our short vacation on our Kalea. The boat is ideal for beginners and offers enough space for 2 people. It is easy to ride and trailer. The camper top is tight and offers sufficient headroom even for taller people. We are very satisfied with our choice of boat and the support provided by the Öchsner team!
