After our last report in August, we sailed our boat from our home port of Stevensweert to Essen in September. It was quite an adventure, as we had never been through a lock before. But everything went really well.
The route over the Meuse was fantastic, and we stopped every now and then, even to spend the night. Then came the Rhine. The boat was perfectly positioned in the waves between the large freighters. But it was quite wobbly. The rest of the way to Essen was then quieter again and we arrived safely in Essen-Kettwig, where we stayed in the harbor for another 4 weeks. From there, we crossed Lake Baldeney a few times, which was also very nice.
We brought our boat to the Öchsner company in October for winter storage. The inspection was carried out there and the winterizing and winterizing again. The hull was also professionally cleaned.
On April 1, we were able to take delivery of the boat again. It was super cold and it was snowing. Fortunately not in our home port of Stevensweert in Holland. The ride was good again, the trailer is great on the road, even in the bad weather conditions. So we arrived safely back in Holland. We didn’t slip out until mid-April, when the weather was better.
Day tours in Holland
We wanted to go to Croatia again at the beginning of August. Unfortunately, this vacation was canceled for health reasons. My wife had suffered a slipped disc in her cervical spine, so we didn’t dare to go on vacation to Croatia. Instead, we stayed in Holland for 3 weeks and went on great day trips by boat. As the weather was fantastic the whole time, we had a very good rest. We often had visitors and everyone was very enthusiastic about the boat and the great tours we went on.
We (2 people) again spent the whole time on board. The situation on board was very comfortable. The upholstery in both cabins is very comfortable and the climate on board was very pleasant, despite 35 degrees during the day and still around 25 degrees in the evening/night. We ate almost exclusively on board. Thanks to the two refrigerators on board, we were always supplied with cool drinks.
It should also be mentioned that many other boat owners looked at our boat when we anchored somewhere in a bay. They arrived in their dinghies and talked to us. Some even had a look inside the boat and everyone was really impressed.
Now we will enjoy the rest of the season until the end of October.
Best regards, J. B.
