Field report 20 -Yachtline-: Lake Constance

Lake Constance round trip

After gaining a lot of experience with our LUCKY in our first boating season, a Lake Constance round trip was on the agenda for this year 2022. This was also a test to see whether it was possible to spend a “real” vacation on this boat. The long weekends had not been a problem since then.

First we had to travel from Untersee through the Seerhein to Constance. This so-called Seerhein route inspires us every time anew. The first destination of our trip was Meersburg, where we even got a seat right in the BSB harbor, with a view of the state winery. The fact that our LUCKY is one of the smaller boats with its dimensions was particularly helpful here. The harbor master had to turn down the big “barges”.

We had the same experience in Lindau, our second stage. Mooring at the finger jetty was child’s play. The city has a lot to offer, so we decided to stay for two days. It was then a “stone’s throw” to Bregenz, where we naturally paid a visit to the Seefestspiele lake stage. An impressive experience.

In the meantime, more and more shopping had to be stowed in the boat, but this was no problem due to the large storage spaces. The boat is also suitable for a shopping trip 😉

We particularly enjoyed the bay of Fußach, which is also known as the “Caribbean of Lake Constance”. Here you really feel as if you are by the sea, only the view of the Austrian and Swiss mountains shows once again that you are on Lake Constance.
But even here we had to cast off again at some point and head for our penultimate destination, Romanshorn. But before we did, we really wanted to make a little detour to the Old Rhine, which today forms the border between Austria and Switzerland.
The port of Romanshorn is located directly on the Seegarten, a park that invites you to linger.

The boat is suitable for a vacation for two

Last but not least, we went to Constance, where we were able to get one of the coveted berths due to our early arrival. Here, of course, we went straight into town after mooring. It has a lot more to offer than just the historical events of the Middle Ages and the sights that can be admired as a result.

12 days on board our LUCKY have shown that this boat is definitely suitable for a vacation for two. There was enough space to store luggage and all the shopping. Thanks to the fridge, we always had cold drinks and everything we needed for a successful breakfast on board.

Unfortunately, the end of our round trip this year also marked the end of the 2022 boating season. In the Untersee, where our home port is located, the water level unfortunately dropped to a level much earlier this year than is normally the case. Despite the shallow draft of our boat, we had to ditch.

Nevertheless, we can look back on a very enjoyable, eventful time and are already looking forward to when it’s “Cast off” again in 2023!
