Travel report with the “Daydream” in summer 2019

With the SR30 -YACHTLINE- to Croatia

In summer 2019 we started our 4-week vacation to Croatia with our SR30 -YACHTLINE- “Daydream”. We – that are Captain Klaus, Smutje Silvana, the two sailors Katinka and Antonia and our boat dog Cookie.

We drove off from Mönchengladbach and after a relaxed journey with an overnight stay in Austria we reached the ACI Marina Opatija in Croatia. There our boat was lowered into the water with the crane and we drove to the city harbor to complete the registration formalities and to refuel. Now our trip could begin.

We drove past small, idyllic bays, anchored and bathed in wonderful turquoise water, far away from the hustle and bustle and mass tourism. Not infrequently we were the only ones in one of the countless bays that we also used for overnight stays.

On the way through the Velebitski Canal, the dreaded Bora surprised us, so we “fled” to the small town of Karlobag and passed the time there with a walk through the town. We continued to the island of Pag, which is known for its delicious cheese. This is offered in the cute bars with ham and should definitely be tried.

After further stops on the islands of Mali Losinj, Ilovik, Olib, Maun and Molat, we anchored in a deserted bay and were surprised by a violent thunderstorm during the night.

Our stay in the tranquil town of Veli Iz, where a traditional folk festival was being celebrated at that time, was particularly nice. Our journey continued with stops in Ugljan on the island of Muline and Zadar. This city with its historic old town is definitely worth a visit. After an extensive shopping tour in this big city, we drove through the scenic nature reserve: the Kornati.

The sight of the rocky landscape with its cliffs and bare island groups was the highlight of the holiday for us.

Then our next destination was the ACI Marina Skradin, from which you can take a taxi boat to another nature reserve with breathtaking waterfalls. On the way to this marina we met another SR 30 that was on its “maiden voyage”.

We experienced the most demanding night in a lonely bay on the island of Murter. Completely unexpectedly, a violent storm came up within a few minutes, which kept us busy for three hours. To be on the safe side, we all put on our life jackets. Despite these difficulties, we managed to get through the night without harming people or boats.

We were compensated in the next few days when suddenly a pod of dolphins appeared not far from our boat and accompanied us for a while. A spectacular sight!

Our final highlight was the completely overpriced, but still beautiful marina in Rovinj. The old town with its many small alleys and cute restaurants as well as the picturesque city harbor will be remembered for a long time.

Journey home with the SR30 -YACHTLINE-

After 25 sunny and eventful days of vacation in Croatia, the “Daydream” was taken out of the water and cleaned with great care and professionalism in Opatija. Our journey home could begin.

Croatia is definitely an absolute must for every boat lover! Anyone who appreciates the diversity of a region and hospitable people should not miss a trip to this enchanting region.

We are looking forward to our next vacation with the SR 30 -YACHTLINE-.
