The fourth season took place in the German capital

In the fourth year with our SR30, Berlin and Brandenburg were the destination of our summer cruise. It has always been our dream to sail our own boat in front of the imposing backdrop of the Reichstag. In June, we set off from Aschaffenburg to the city of Brandenburg, from where we wanted to approach the center of the German capital via the Havel and Spree rivers.
The journey over the “Kassel mountains” with the Öchsner trailer was – as expected – no problem. The boat lies on the road like a plank.

We were able to slip without any problems in the town marina, park our car and trailer a few meters away at Yachtservice Medow and also go shopping within walking distance. Later, on a boat trip through the town, we saw that a supermarket even has its own jetty. Boating therefore has a different dimension here than on the Main, where mooring facilities outside the marinas are unfortunately extremely rare.

The weather was beautiful as we made our way up the Havel via Potsdam to Spandau, where we turned into the Spree. But we weren’t the only ones who wanted to see the government district from the water. It is teeming with excursion boats, so you hardly get a chance to enjoy the scenery. Now we also understand why a radio is mandatory on board on this section of the river.

The advantage of a trailerable boat? Take a shortcut over land and then explore new areas with your own boat!

So we made our way quite quickly to the Mühlentor lock and out of the tourist traffic. What followed was something we Main boatmen would never have expected. The east of the city with all its lakes, rivers and canals is absolutely stunning. The highlight was the dinghy trip through Little Venice just after the Kleiner Müggelsee. One cozy waterside property follows the next, almost all with a jetty. This is followed abruptly by a change to completely calm waterways or beautiful bathing lakes.

Unfortunately, our two weeks were over far too quickly, but we will definitely be back! Why else did we buy an SR30? The advantage of “taking a shortcut over land” to explore great new areas with our own boat is exactly what we were looking for. Trailerability paired with comfort – even after 4 years we are still enthusiastic about the Öchsner concept!
