- crew experience: experienced
After many years with our Drago 21, with which we have already spent beautiful holidays on rivers, lakes and especially on the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, the decision was made in autumn 2018 to purchase a larger boat.
Since it was to be a trailerable boat again, the offers of the company Öchsner-Boote were in the foreground, as they are unbeatable, especially in terms of size, equipment and weight.
After inspections of the boats in question at the Interboot and at the Öchsner company, the choice fell on the 29 -Yachtline-. In the search for the right equipment and the implementation of our wishes, Mr. Küffner supported us in a friendly and competent manner, so that we ordered our new boat in July 2019.
On May 20, 2020, the time had come, our boat was ready for handover.
After a comprehensive theoretical briefing by Mr. Küffner and a subsequent practical briefing on the Main by Mr. Öchsner, we transferred our Avalon to her home camp near Augsburg.
With our 29 -Yachtline- to the Croatian Adriatic
In the indoor camp, the preparations for the first big holiday trip were finally made. In the numerous cupboards, shelves and storage compartments, everything was stored that was necessary for a trip lasting several weeks. And then we started, on the first big trip with our new boat to the Croatian Adriatic.
The journey was relaxed until our first stage destination south of the Alps, the trailer ran smoothly and stably behind the towing vehicle. The following day we continued on the highway until it was completely closed due to strong easterly winds (Bora) near Sveti Rok and we were diverted to the old pass road. Despite initial concerns, our team mastered this challenge (descent, incline, serpentines, tight curves) confidently.
After 80 kilometers overland, we went back to the highway. Due to the persistent strong wind, however, we could only continue our journey at reduced speed and reached our destination – Marina Kremik – only in the late afternoon.
The next day we finally went into the water. The first mooring manoeuvre went smoothly thanks to the built-in transverse thruster.
After we had stowed our supplies and filled the water and fuel tank, we started the first big trip with our Avalon.
Passing the islands of Drvenik, Solta and Brac, they went over the eastern tip of Hvar to Korcula, Mljet and Dubrovnik.
Despite a full load (food, water, gasoline…), the Avalon reached the glide quickly and without much restriction of visibility. In slightly turbulent seas, the boat glided calmly over the water at 24 knots, so that even long distances could be covered in a relaxed manner.
We experienced fantastic sunsets in lonely bays
In larger waves, the wide-beam hull dived softly and calmly into the water. Even with quick changes of direction and tight turns, the boat could be steered easily and precisely. On our route, we anchored mainly in lonely bays, where we could experience fantastic sunsets.
When mooring at restaurants, harbours and marinas, the bathing ladder/gangway integrated in the extended bathing platform facilitated access on land. The additionally manufactured soft top parts with fly screens were used in marinas and bays as sun, privacy and wind protection. Especially in bays, these provided a pleasant air conditioning in the evening, where we also liked to have a barbecue.
After almost 4 weeks full of beautiful and eventful days, we reached the starting point of the trip, the Marina Kremik, with our Avalon again. After the problem-free crane on the trailer, the boat was prepared again for transport by road.
For us, the 29 -Yachtline- is the ideal touring boat. The space, comfort and sailing characteristics of the boat exceeded our expectations and so we were already making plans for the next adventure with our Avalon on the way home.
Best regards, B.C.
