We now have two eventful years behind us. In addition to gaining experience in the area, handling the boat and planning extended boat trips, this also includes organizing external services. In this report, we describe various aspects of our experiences.

We take at least two days for a boat tour. Every additional day adds considerably to the quality of your vacation. During the summer season, our SX20 -Yachtline- is permanently moored in the Baltic Sea region in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. We appreciate this marina, the very spacious waters, the special features on land and the offer that is available to tourists in this region. In the meantime, we have also gotten to know the hinterland by car, bike, jogging or walking: stores, restaurants, landmarks for orientation and our favorite places.

No matter what time we arrive, the boat is ready in the water. It is checked daily for mooring. We park 300 meters further on in Winterlagen. Our trailer is located here during the summer season. The equipment is now transported to the boat with a handcart. We will contact the harbor master or the staff. Because we’re back now and are signing off our SX20 for the next few days. Then they will know and can allocate our place at short notice.

The food here is excellent. Once a week, fish is smoked here just behind the harbor master’s house. Do we stay in the harbor overnight and take part in the barbecue? The wind force and wind direction are estimated to plan the first stage destinations. Where will we have good evening sun, lie quietly at anchor overnight and be able to turn well into the sun in the morning? The decision is easy for us today.

An elegant glide takes us to one of our favorite bays. The boat is a consistent lightweight construction that doesn’t make a big wave. We watch out for aquatic plants and approach the shore at a much slower speed. No anchor chain, no loud commands or any hustle and bustle break the silence. The anchor is lowered into the water manually using the rope.

We pay attention to every animal voice and the silhouettes in the sky or on land. We don’t want to scare anyone off, but rather blend in discreetly. Far out in nature, we observe and enjoy together. And then it’s into the water. The moon reflects on the surface of the water and we watch the water bats hunting. Occasionally we look at the stars or keep an eye out for the beaver with the night glass.

With each boat tour that extends over several days, we also get to know the area over a wide area.

During our shore excursions, we engage with the people who are also passing through or offering services.

The refrigerator holds enough food for a week. On longer boat trips we buy more. The 5-kilometer walk through the forest to the opposite coast was unusual. The forest path eventually led directly to the village store. We also had a good piece of smoked salmon in the adjacent harbor.

This year we took the boat out on three different bodies of water. As a matter of principle, the high-quality trailer is not driven into salty water. That is why we are dependent on cranes on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Another reason for having to crane in certain navies is to maintain personnel coupled with lucrative revenue opportunities. We were forbidden to use the slipway on the Müritz with reference to the crane. A few minutes later, this spot was used by rescuers with their highly equipped lifeboats to rescue the crew of a half-sunken houseboat about 5 km further out. It was good that we didn’t stand in the way of this mission. A day later, we drove past the accident at a great distance from the nature reserve.

It is customary to notify the crane one day in advance. Fortunately for us, the crane operator was temporarily on the site and was able to help immediately. It is more complicated when regattas are registered and the summer camp, like the winter camp, is made available to the participants for days. Then the sports club is in a strictly organized state of emergency. These events are worth seeing, but under these circumstances you have to plan and, if necessary, reschedule.

We support the fishing industry with our purchases and visits to restaurants.

This year we spontaneously decided to call off the season before the approaching fall storms and hand over the boat halfway to our “home port” for inspection and winter storage.
The boat offers us unique experiences in special water landscapes. We appreciate that very much.

Best regards, K.P.
